CHALLENGE

Children living in Southeast Asia & Africa are susceptible to Hepatitis B virus. But though the virus can be treated and managed in it’s acute stage, it shows no symptoms in children, so a large percentage of acute cases easily proceed to chronic infection.

INSIGHT

Children put almost everything in their mouth especially their toys. Luckily, Hepatitis B is detectable in body fluids including saliva.

IDEA

Lego Toys, with in-built saliva biomarkers and tiny LED lights which start to blink like an ambulance once the biomarkers detect HBV antigens in the child’s saliva. This way, parents and children carers can be notified and take the child for further testing. With early detection, we can stop acute infections from proceeding to chronic, life threatening stages.
